Life Style
Your lifestyle has as much to do with beauty as any of the more specific routines you may adopt. You can fast on orange juice for two days out of eveyr seven, exercise frenetically from dawn to dusk, apply your make-up with scrupulous care but, if you do not know how to relax and how to enjoy the ‘high’ and manage the ‘lows’ of life, you will never look or feel your best.
Beauty is wellbeing. It is feeling fulfilled in whatever sphere of life you have chosen, feeling confident about your relationship with the world and its relationship with you, being able to distinguish between the things that matter to you and the things that do not, pursuing the things that you chan change the accepting the things that you cannot. It is feeling positively well. Such wellbeing may be reflected in the mirror, but it goes much deeper. It means sleeping well, eating properly, recognizing when you are tense, learning to relax, making some time for yourself in your day, accepting challenges but not expecting to achieve the impossible, taking control of your life and not relying on false stimuli or sedatives such as cigarettes, alcohol, sleeping pills tranquillizers or other drugs to prop you up. A long list perhaps, but it is the small changes in lifestyle, not the major upheavals that make the difference. Such changes are within your own control.
Guidelines to help you consider certain aspects of your lifestyle and, First you must ask yourself what you want out of life, what you think is important and where your priorities lie. Take a long critical look, take your stress test, if appropriate complete the smoking and drinking questionnaires in the personal profile, and put it into the context of your own life.
Flexibility is important, if you have become entrenched in a certain way of living or manner of doing things, it is all the more important that you should aim to get a new perspective on your lifestyle. Examine your day to day habits and questions your reasons doing things, especially things that you do automatically. Examine the way in which you schedule your day and ask yourself how productive it is. Be objective.
Inevitably, things will happen throughout your life that will disturb your equilibrium most temporarily, some times more permanently. But if you can organize your priorities around the things that matter to you and, recognizing what you wan to achieve, have the courage and confidence to pursue your aims, you will be able to regain your balance and come out on top.
